This transmission method includes a step (S551) for receiving, as a designated light adjustment degree, a light adjustment degree designated with respect to a light source, and a step (S552) in which, when the designated light adjustment degree is no greater than a first value, a light source emits light at the designated light adjustment degree while a signal encoded in a first mode is transmitted via changes in luminance, and, when the designated light adjustment degree is greater than the first value, the light source emits light at the designated light adjustment degree while a signal encoded in a second mode is transmitted via changes in luminance. The peak current value of the light source when the designated light adjustment degree is greater than the first value but no more than a second value is smaller than the peak current value of the light source when the designated light adjustment value is the first value.
