The traversers are installed opposite to each other at both ends of conveyor lines arranged parallel to each other, respectively, and transfer, one by one, surface plate vehicles which travel on the conveyor lines in a linked state to the adjacent conveyor line. The traverser comprises a pair of first rails positioned orthogonal to the conveyor lines and laid down parallel to each other at both ends of a base frame body, the conveyor vehicles allowed to travel on the first rails to the loading/unloading position of the surface plate vehicles at one end of each conveyor line with wheels interposed therebetween, a conveyor mechanism for traveling the conveyor vehicles along the pair of first rails, and a rack and pinion moving mechanism having a push-out function and a damping mechanism which is mounted on the conveyor vehicles and used for transferring the surface plate vehicles.
