Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treatment method for acrylamide-containing waste water easy to handle in a chemical plant and effective for conc. waste water.
SOLUTION: Alkali is added to acrylamide-containing waste water to partially hydrolyze the waste water and an acid is subsequently added to this waste water to make the same weakly acidic and, thereafter, the hydrolysate is polymerized by a redox polymerization catalyst such as iron-aq. hydrogen peroxide and ions of calcium or Mg are added to the formed polymer to precipitate an insoluble polymer, which is, in turn, removed by filtering and float separation to suitably remove acrylamide in waste water. The concn. of acrylamide of acrylamide-containing waste water is set to 0.3-3%.
