Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a method and device improving an effective conversion of Claus process to accelerate a downstream region treatment of a formed gas stream.
CONSTITUTION: A part of a hydrogen sulfide content of a feed gas stream containing the hydrogen sulfide is burned by a burner 2 that fires into a furnace 4. The combustion is supported by a stream of oxygen or oxygen-enriched air stream. The formed sulfur dioxide is allowed to react with a residual hydrogen sulfide in the furnace 4 to form the sulfur vapor. The sulfur is condensed from a gas mixture in the condenser 10. At least part of the sulfur-free gas mixture is allowed to enter a reaction vessel 14, and the sulfur dioxide content is reduced to the hydrogen sulfide. The steam is removed from the formed gas stream in the condenser 16. At least part of the gas stream essentially free of steam is recycled to the furnace 4. A purge stream is taken either from immediately downstream of a sulfur condenser or from an intermediate of the water condenser 16 and the furnace 4 or from the furnace 4, and if desired, subjected to further treatment to remove the sulfur-containing gas therefrom.
