NEW MATERIAL:Compds. of formula I (wherein R1W3 are H, methyl; R4 is H, alkyl, alkenyl, lower-alkoxy-lower-alkyl, lower-alkoxy-lower-alkoxy-lower-alkyl, hydroxy-lower-alkyl, aralkyl, halogeno-lower-alkyl, tetrahydrofurfuryl, alkenyloxy-lower-alkyl, aryloxy-lower-alkyl, aralkyloxy-lower-alkyl, lower-alkoxycarbonyl-lower-alkyl, lower-alkylcarbonyl-lower-alkyl, lower-alkoxycarbonyloxy- lower-alkyl).
USE: Clear magenta tricyanovinylquinoline dye for thermal transfer recording.
PREPARATION: Tetrahydroquinolines of formula II are reacted with tetracyanoethylene of formula III in an org. solvent.
