PURPOSE: To apply a superconducting DC motor to a driving means of an axial flow compressor, and dispense with a turbine as the driving means of the axial flow compressor by cooling a superconducting coil with the liquid hydrogen which is the fuel of the turbo engine.
CONSTITUTION: An axial flow compressor 53 provided inside an engine casing 41 of cylindrical shape, a fuel gas distributing body 26 having a hydrogen flow passage 30 connected rearward thereof, and a superconducting DC motor 60 to drive the axial flow compressor 53 are provided, and the DC current is supplied to this motor 60 from a DC power source device 6 1. The hydrogen stored in a liquid hydrogen storage tank 31 is supplied from a pump 32, and guided to a cooling jacket 66 through a pipe passage 67 to contribute to the cooling of a superconducting coil 59 of the superconducting DC motor 60, and then, evaporated and expanded in a hydrogen flow passage 30. A turbine 30 for driving the pump is driven by the hydrogen gas generated here, and the hydrogen gas discharged from the turbine 34 is injected into the fuel gas distributing body 26 by a pipe passage 70.
