To provide an ultraviolet treatment apparatus detectable of output lowering of an ultraviolet lamp and a change in the transmissibility of fluid to be treated without using a transmittance meter.
The ultraviolet treatment apparatus 1 treats water to be treated with ultraviolet rays of the ultraviolet lamp 8 stored in a treatment tank 2 in which the water to be treated circulates. The treatment tank 2 is formed with a transmissive window 18 which transmits the ultraviolet rays of the ultraviolet lamp 8. An ultraviolet monitor 22 for detecting the illumination of ultraviolet rays is provided in front of the transmissive window 18. Refined water as the reference water and water to be treated are selectively passed between the transmissive window 18 and the ultraviolet monitor 22. Based on each illumination Ia, Ib of ultraviolet rays when each of the water to be treated and reference water is passed, an ultrasonic ray damping factor α of the water to be treated is determined and, based on the ultraviolet ray damping factor α and the illumination Ia or Ib of ultraviolet rays, output lowering of the ultraviolet lamp 8 is detected.
