Title:
UNIVERSAL LATHE FOR WOODWORKING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2001113502
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a universal lathe for woodworking which can be easily and safely operated even by a beginner or a child with ease because a bit need not be directly touched, in a hand bite lathe in which a conventional chisel joint bite is held in hand to cut wood using a bite bed but requires considerably high operating skill and enables a user to freely fabricate a work to his liking but with difficulty to create a reproduction.

As seen in Fig. 1 plan, a lever with a handle 8 is of a metal square bar-type so as to realize the mounting of a plurality of bites and is crossed at right angles with the rotating center line of a chuck 4 in almost the center between the chuck 4 and a tail spindle 7. Further, the tip of the lever with a handle 8 is engaged with a swivel bearing 9, which is, in turn, screwed into a base 1. In addition, a slant double-edged bite 10 is screwed into the lower face of a position for the lever with a handle 8 which is crossed at right angles with the rotating center line. A rotary copy template is screwed into the base l below a spot near the slant double-edged bite 10 of the lever with a handle 8. It is easy to reproduce works with both round ends such as a fishing float or 'Kokeshi' wooden doll with this universal lathe for woodworking. Besides, four different kinds of the bites are fitted to the faces of the lever with a handle 8 which is of a metal square bar-type. The four different kinds of the bites are replaced only by turning the handle and thus variegated objects can be made by cutting with the lathe.
