Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out proper prediction when consecutive prediction requests with respect to the same entry are presented before prediction results are determined and a prediction table is updated in regard to a value predicting device and method carrying out prediction by referring to the prediction table, and updating the prediction table.
SOLUTION: A prediction history storing means 5 is provided for storing a history of predictions with unfinished prediction processes, and a counting means 6 is provided for comparing an identifier included in the history of predictions with an identifier given when starting a prediction process, and counting the number of times that both identifiers match. It is composed such that a prediction circuit 1 sends an output value of the prediction circuit to an update circuit 2, the update circuit updates a state of the prediction table in a virtual manner by using the output value of the prediction circuit, the state of the prediction table is sent back to the prediction circuit, the prediction circuit carries out a prediction process again by using the state of the prediction table updated in a virtual manner, and operation of the prediction circuit and operation of the update circuit are repeated in response to the number of times that both identifiers match.
