Abstract:
PURPOSE:To raise the intake and exhaust efficiency of an engine, by increasing the effective volume of a combustion chamber by constituting an intake valve and an exhaust valve by a piston valve. CONSTITUTION:An intake valve 9 and an exhaust valve 10 are constituted respectively by piston valves 9a, 10a, and opening and closing of an intake port 7 and an exhaust port 8 is controlled by sliding the piston valves 9a, 10a in valve inserted chambers by shafts 14b, 15b turned at the half speed of a crankshaft via connecting rods 14c, 15c. When the piston valves are moved from the top dead point to the bottom dead point, the ports 7, 8 are opened on the side of the bottom dead point of the middle point of the stroke. By employing such an arrangement, the effective volume of a combustion chamber is increased and the intake and exhaust efficiency of an engine is raised since the piston valves do not project into the combustion chamber as different from the lift valves. Therefore, it is enabled to improve the performance of a four-cycle engine.
