Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily measure the valve clearance of an internal combustion engine in an assembling line and the like, by determining a valve operation angle during the time from a fine displacement state to the fine displacement state through a releasing state, on the basis of the second cam angle and the first cam angle.
SOLUTION: A valve 10 is directly operated by a cam 9 of a cam shaft. A sensor 2 is kept into contact with a valve retainer 12 of an upper part of the valve 10. The valve 10 is displaced by the rotation of the cam 9, and the expansion and contraction of a valve spring 11. The valve retainer 12 is also displaced in accompany with the displacement of the valve 10, so that the displacement amount of the valve 10 is detected by the sensor 2. The displacement amount of the valve 10 and the rotation angle of the cam 9 are detected, and the valve clearance is determined on the basis of the detected values. That is, the measurement can be performed in a condition that a cylinder head is assembled in a cylinder block, so that the measured value can be determined with regard to the temperature change of the distorsion of the cylinder head, and the length of the valve, and the like, and the high accuracy in measurement can be obtained.
