To provide a valve gear of an internal combustion engine having a cam and a cam follower that have improved scuffing resistance and wear resistance and slide by sliding contact each other.
In the valve gear 1 of an internal combustion engine having a camshaft 4 and the cam follower 3 sliding with the camshaft 4, at least either of sliding sections 21, 31 of the cam 2 of a camshaft 4 and the cam followers 3 has a hole by chemical etching. The hole functions as an oil reservoir when the valve gear 1 operates, thus preventing oil shortage in operation. Therefore, the valve gear of an internal combustion engine having the cam and cam follower having improved scuffing resistance and wear resistance is obtained by adjusting contact surface pressure. The total area of the hole is desirably 10-30% to the area of a sliding section. The diameter and depth of the hole are desirably 2 μm or more and 50 μm or less, and 1 μm or more and 15 μm or less, respectively.
