Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a prescribed air pressure in a tire.SOLUTION: An air maintenance tire assembly comprises a tire having a tire cavity which is surrounded by first and second side walls which extend to a tire tread area, air pressure force feed means which generates compressed air for maintaining an air pressure in the tire cavity at a prescribed level. The tire has a valve stem having a valve stem internal air passage which is projected outwards from the tire cavity, is communicated with the tire cavity and so acts as to introduce compressed air into the tire cavity, and a valve housing which is located adjacent to an outer end of the valve stem and can so acts as to selectively open and close flow of compressed air from the valve stem internal air passage to the tire cavity.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
