PURPOSE: To properly perform the supporting of a vibration body and the transmission of motion by arranging a torque generator provided with a rotating body in the center of the vibration body and an electroviscous fluid type damper around it, and providing a swing member, a supporting shaft, and a suspending member.
CONSTITUTION: A vibration body 10 is suspended and supported swingably through a frame 2 and a supporting member 3. Also a torque generator and an electroviscous fluid type damper 7 are arranged around the swing center of the vibration body 10. When a building 300 is vibrated, the vibration body 10 is vibrated at a lower position away from the torque generator and the damper 7. Then the quake of a building 300 is suppressed by the elastic force by a coiled spring 11, damping forces by the electroviscous fluid type damper, a viscous resistance cylindrical type damper 7, and a piston type damper 12, and actions of any force by the torque generator. Thus a variable damping device 1 can be rather reduced in size and, therefore, can be set even in a restricted space.
