Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a determination method of the optimum power distribution pattern recorded in the memory of a variable dispersion compensation device and applied to each temperature variable means using fiber grating and to provide the variable dispersion compensation device using the same.
SOLUTION: The variable dispersion compensation device is obtained in such a manner that a plurality of temperature variable means are provided along the longitudinal direction of the near part of the fiber grating fixed to a substrate, a controlling circuit applying power to the temperature variable means is prepared, a prescribed first power distribution pattern is applied to each temperature variable means, a group delay time to the wavelength of the fiber grating is measured, the ripple of the difference between the group delay time or dispersion and a desired characteristic curve is calculated, whether the ripple is in a permissible range is decided, when the ripple is not in the permissible range, a second power distribution pattern is calculated according to the ripple, the second power distribution pattern is optimized, the sum of the first power distribution pattern and the optimized second power distribution pattern is determined as the power distribution pattern and recorded in the memory and the memory is connected to the controlling circuit.
