To produce a correct phase coupling in both of two banks while adopting a constitution of a mirror arrangement, in a variable valve mechanism for a V-type internal combustion engine which keeps a mechanism changing the working angle and valve-opening phase of a valve element in both banks.
Intake camshafts 10, 14 for driving valve elements 32 (intake valves) are arranged on the left and right side banks, respectively. Variable valve mechanisms 30 are arranged on the right and left side banks so as to mutually satisfy the relation of a mirror arrangement. The variable valve mechanisms 30 are equipped with control shafts 60 for controlling the working angles of the valve elements 32. The control shafts 60 are controlled in a symmetric direction in the right and left side banks. The right and left side intake camshafts 10, 14 are rotated at a speed in synchronism with a crankshaft in the directions opposite to each other.
