To provide a variable wavelength light source, a light transmitting device and a wavelength controlling method which have no adverse effect to other wavelengths upon applying them onto a multi-wavelength light transmission system.
The temperature of the light source 1 is stabilized at a temperature matching to a predetermined wave length by a temperature control unit 2 at first under a condition that a driving current is not supplied to a semiconductor chip constituting the light source 1. Then the supply of the driving current to the semiconductor chip is started after stabilizing the temperature of the light source 1 at a temperature matching to the required wave length. Thereafter, a control unit 3 for controlling the output light power of the light source 1 at a specified level is started, however, a time constant of the light power control upon starting the same is specified so as to be equal to or longer than the response time of the temperature control.
