To provide a vehicle control device for shortening an engaging time for a meshing clutch while preventing the generation of a shock during engagement.
The vehicle control device comprises a first engaging member, a second engaging member, a motor, an actuator, an estimating means, and a target phase determining means. The estimating means estimates a rattling state as the backlash clogging state of a gear train from the motor to the first engaging member. The target phase determining means changes a target phase during engagement in accordance with the rattling state estimated by the estimating means. Thus, the target phase can be determined while considering the rattling condition, engagement durable to disturbance can be executed, and the generation of the shock can be prevented.
