To maintain a vehicle at an appropriate vehicle height by self-pumping operation without inhibition of riding comfortableness in the vehicle by generating a damping force suitable to an increased body weight.
In the vehicle height adjusting device, a low-pressure chamber R3 defined by disposing a barrier wall member 6 out of a cylinder body 1 is connected with a lower chamber R2 defined by a piston body 4 having a damping part within the cylinder 1 through a pump mechanism, and the lower chamber R2 is connected with a gas-liquid separated high-pressure chamber R4 defined by disposing the barrier wall member 6 through a communication passage 5a formed in a bottom block 5 opposed to the lower chamber R2 while blocking a lower end opening of the cylinder body 1. The device includes a valve element 20 increasing and reducing the passage area in the communication passage 5a depending on oil pressure in the high-pressure chamber R4.
