To provide a compact vehicular drive device which can reduce the stirring resistance of a lubricant and be easily changed to the drive device for a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
A longitudinally installed engine 10, torque converter 20, belt type continuously variable transmission 30 are connected in order; an output shaft 51 is arranged on the same shaft as the crankshaft 11 of the engine 10; a front drive shaft 53 for transmitting the power from the output shaft 51 is arranged on the downside of the output shaft 51; and a hub 56 fitted to the output shaft 51, a double pinion type planetary gear 60 having a sun gear 61 formed on the hub 56, a first multi-plate clutch 70 for transmitting the power from a transmission 30 to a carrier 65 and a second multi-plate brake 80 for rotatingly and engagingly locking a ring gear 62 selectively are provided. The power is transmitted by the selective operation of the first multi-plate clutch 70 and the second multi-plate brake 80 and the switching of forward/backward movement.
