To provide a vehicular side collision detecting device widely and certainly detecting the deformation of a reinforcing member of a side surface door, and starting an occupant crash protection device at an early stage; and a vehicular occupant crash protection system equipped with the side collision detecting device.
In a cavity 13c of a cylindrical reinforcing member 13, a plane coil 20 is disposed so as to opposite to a wall surface 13d of the inner wall of the cavity 13c in a longitudinal direction of the reinforcing member 13 and generate a magnetic field in a horizontal direction. The plane coil 20 is formed to be long sideways from a starting end to a terminal end in the longitudinal direction of the reinforcing member 13. By the collision of an article to an outer plate 11, when the reinforcing member 13 is deformed, the wall surface 13d of the inner wall on the outer plate 11 side of the reinforcing member 13 moves to a coil 20 side, and a separation distance between the coil 20 and the wall surface 13d of the inner wall becomes short. The separation distance becomes short, so that the magnetic flux of the coil 20 is changed, and the inductance of the coil 20 is decreased. Changes of the magnetic flux is detected as changed of the inductance, thereby determining whether the article collided with a vehicle.
