Abstract:

To provide a vertical alignment mode liquid crystal display device which prevents alignment unevenness generated by fluidized alignment in a liquid crystal injection step for a liquid crystal display device and which has improved display quality.

In an LCD having an alignment controlling means for a liquid crystal other than an alignment layer, an inorganic vertical alignment layer which is not rubbing treated is used. The inorganic vertical alignment layer can prevent alignment unevenness due to fluidized alignment because of its difficulty in forming a pretilt angle. Because the alignment controlling means is provided, for example, with alignment controlling windows 20, alignment controlling electrodes or alignment controlling inclined parts, directions of liquid crystal molecules can be controlled without providing any pretilt angle.
