To provide a compact vertical electrolysis apparatus which allows a steel strip to stably run without contacting with an electrode, even in a high speed region.
The vertical electrolysis apparatus 10 for electrolyzing the steel strip 17 by passing the steel strip 17 between pairs of electrodes 13-16, which arranges a sink roll 18 in a treatment tank 12, each pair of facing electrodes 13-16 in the treatment tank 12 filled with a treatment liquid 11, of which one pair is arranged in the upstream and the other in the downstream of the sink roll 18, is characterized by pairs of baffle plates 23-26 for generating pressure difference between the front side and the rear side of the steel strip 17, by regulating an accompanying flow of the treatment liquid 11 resulting from run of the steel strip 17, which are arranged in the sink roll side of each pair of electrodes 13-16 so as to sandwich the steel strip 17.
