To provide a vertical shaft pump having a structure simple and easy in an installation work and capable of effectively cleaning a suction tank in a controlled operation.
Vertical pipes 21A, 21B branched from T-shaped pipes 19A, 19B connected to a discharge vent 7 respectively are vertically extended along a casing 2. A circular pipe 23 provided with a plurality of nozzles 26 is connected to the lower end of the vertical pipes 21A, 21B. In the controlled operation of the vertical shaft pump 1, valves 22A, 22B of the vertical pipes 21A, 21B are opened by a controller 28 after detecting the closing of a gate valve 8 by the input from a pressure sensor 27. Water forcibly fed to the circular pipe 23 through the vertical pipes 21A, 21B from the upper end side of the casing 2 is jetted toward the bottom part 5a of the suction tank 5 from the nozzles 26 and foreign substances deposited on the bottom part 5a are floated on water in the water tank 5.
