PURPOSE: To realize remarkable cost reduction and low power consumption and to provide the video camera contributing to a miniaturized set by allowing hand-shake to be corrected with simple configuration of timing control only.

CONSTITUTION: A CCD image sensor 11 having a light receiving area larger than that of an image pickup area providing an output of a video signal is used and a longitudinal motion sensor 19 and a lateral motion sensor 20 sense a motion in vertical and horizontal directions of the CCD image sensor 11 with respect to an object. Then, a CCD drive control circuit 13 controls a position of an image pickup area in the light receiving face of the CCD image sensor 11 in the vertical and horizontal directions on the basis of the sensing output and drives a vertical transfer section at a constant speed for a vertical valid period and drives it at a high speed for a vertical blanking period, and a horizontal transfer section at a constant speed for a horizontal valid period and drives it at a high speed for a horizontal blanking period.
