Abstract:
To provide compositions for prophylactic or therapeutic treatment of myocardial fibrosis or associated conditions (e.g., hypertension).
The invention relates to compositions comprising a pharmaceutically effective amount of one or more functional vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) fragments. Most preferably, the (VIP) fragments have as a core sequence amino acid residues 6 to 10 of native VIP, or conservative substitutions thereof. However, they may also have as a core sequence amino acid residues 16 to 25 of native VIP, or conservative substitutions thereof.
