To provide a virtual joystick system and method capable of controlling monitor cameras without an additional joystick in terms of hardware under a graphical user interface environment (GUI) provided on a computer monitor and providing a motion of a mouse on the computer monitor as if it were the motion of a virtual joystick on the computer monitor.
A prescribed region is set on the computer monitor. According to the direction that a cursor is clicked on and dragged within the region, a rotary movement command to pan or tilt a camera at a remote place is generated. If a mouse wheel is rotatably pushed or pulled or the mouse is moved to an additional control region within the selected region, additional functions such as zoom-in/out and focus-in/out are performed, which is characterized in the system.
