Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a water-based coating composition which can give a coating film which has good chipping resistance even when it is thin by mixing a latex with a platy clay mineral in a specified mixing ratio.
CONSTITUTION: The composition comprises 100 pts.wt. (in terms of the solid matter) latex and 10-300 pts.wt. platy clay mineral. Desirably, this composition further contains 0.1-10 pts.wt. phosphoric acid compound in order to improve the chipping resistance. More desirably, it contains 40-500 pts.wt. alkali metal compound or alkaline earth metal compound in order to improve the chipping and blistering resistances.
