To provide a water heater of a space-saving system excellent in instantaneous water heating performance.
The water heater includes: a hot water storage tank 4; a tapping pipe 6 connected to an upper part of the hot water storage tank 4; a water supply pipe 7 connected to a lower part of the hot water storage tank 4; a water supply branch pipe 8 branched from the water supply pipe 7; a mixing valve 9 in which the tapping pipe 6 and the water supply branch pipe 8 are connected to an inlet side thereof; a mixed-water pipe 10 connected to an outlet side of the mixing valve 9; a hot water supply port 3 connected to the mixed water pipe 10; and a heat-retention pump 11 connecting a connecting part of the mixed water pipe 10 and the water supply port 3, with the water supply branch pipe 8. A heat-retention pump 12 is disposed to the heat-retention pipe 11. Since a circulation circuit is formed to make the heat-retention pump 12 circulate hot water even during stop of hot water supply, the need of a large mounting space near the hot water supply port 3 is eliminated, and the hot water can be supplied just after start of the hot water supply.
