To reduce an amount of heat release from a hot water storage tank and to improve energy efficiency in a water heater that carries out a replenishment operation for replenishing hot water to the hot water storage tank by means of a heating means.
A water heater (10) includes a hot water storage tank (25), a heating means (13) that heats water taken in and supplies it to the hot water storage tank (25), and a control means (50) that causes the heating means (13) to perform a replenishment operation for hot water supply to the hot water storage tank (25) when the amount of residual hot water existing in the hot water storage tank (25) becomes equal to or less than the lower limit amount of hot water. The control means (50) performs a normal operation for controlling the replenishment operation of the heating means (13) by setting the lower limit amount of hot water as a first reference value and a hot water amount increase operation for controlling the replenishment operation of the heating means (13) by setting the lower limit amount of hot water as a second reference value, which is greater than the first reference value when a predetermined switching condition is satisfied.
