Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a weld-target plate material butt laser welding method capable of dispensing with a highly accurate filler wire control, preventing lack of fusion and poor weld such as insufficient melt of a filler wire, and obtaining a high-quality laser weld joint.SOLUTION: A method comprises: a groove forming step S1 of forming a groove so as to provide a groove root face portion 3 in part of each of end surfaces of two weld-target plate materials 1, 2 so that the weld-target plate materials 1, 2 are butt against each other and to provide a groove opening portion 4 in any one of upper and lower portions of the groove root face portion 3; a butting step S2 of causing the two weld-target plate materials 1, 2 to butt against each other so that the groove root face portions 3 contact each other; a root-face-portion welding step S3 of irradiating each groove root face portion 3 with a laser beam and forming a complete joint penetration weld zone; and a multilayer-weld-zone forming step S4 of forming a multilayer weld zone only by irradiating the groove opening portion 4 in which the complete joint penetration weld zone is formed with a laser beam.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
