To provide a wet friction material capable of matching to the increase of a load without causing delamination, and having a high coefficient of dynamic friction and a good ratio of the static to dynamic frictions.
The wet friction material 10 is obtained by integrating a wet-laid nonwoven fabric 14 and a dry-laid nonwoven fabric 16 by interlacing by using needle punching or water flow-interlacing method, filling a friction-regulating agent from a wet-laid nonwoven fabric 14 side, impregnating the whole with a thermoset resin, and subjecting the cured base material 12 to heat and compression molding. The high coefficient of the friction is obtained by filling the friction-regulating agent in the wet-laid nonwoven fabric. The high delamination strength is kept by the interlacing method. The high coefficient of the friction and the good ratio of the static to dynamic frictions are obtained by regulating the porosity and pore diameters of the friction material 10 produced by impregnating the nonwoven fabric with the thermoset resin after forming the friction-regulating agent-filled layer 18, curing the impregnated product and subjecting the cured product to the heat and compression molding.
