Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excavate a large cross-section tunnel safely and rapidly by previously reinforcing and improving the natural ground over the whole length of a tunnel construction area.
SOLUTION: After a top heading 2 is excavated through over the whole length of a construction area of a tunnel 1, bent boring is performed along the peripheral edge of cross section of the tunnel 1 at specified spaces from the top heading 2, and a steel pipe 3 is installed in a boring. A filler is filled into the natural ground around the tunnel form the steel pipe 3 to construct an artificial natural ground arch 4. The tunnel 1 is then excavated, a hanging form 6 is advanced, and concrete is placed for secondary lining to excavate the tunnel.
