To continuously detect whether shift from one gauge to the other gauge is performed by a shifting force that does not exceed a preset maximum value or not, by arranging a plurality of load cells in each lateral shift guide.
In the wheel shift control system of a gauge converter including unlocking guides 5 and 5 and lateral shift guides 7 and 8, for example, three load cells C1, C2, and C3 are provided in each of the lateral shift guides 7 and 8. The load cells C1, C2, and C3 are assigned the free end of the guide 7 being used as the elastic part of the lateral guide, the connection part between the guide 7 and the guide 8 being used as a stiff part, and the free end of the guide 8, respectively. Each load cell is arranged at the fixing support of the unlocking guides 5 and 6, and is connected to a detector 9 for transferring force being applied by a set of wheels on the shifting movement of the set of wheels. The output of each load cell is treated, for example, by an addition connection box, a signal adjustment unit, or the like, and is sent to a treating device for displaying and evaluating.
