Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the title compsn. excellent in homogeneity, stability, etc., by dissolving a combination of two specific polymers selected from different groups, each group consisting of a benzothiazole-based, a benzoxazole-based, and a benzimidazole-based polymer. in polyphosphoric acid, etc., in such a manner that no liq. crystalline phase is observed. CONSTITUTION:A first polymer selected from the group consisting of polybenzothiazole, polybenzoxazole, and polybenzimidazole and a second polymer selected from the group consisting of poly-p-phenylenebenzobisbenzothiazole, poly-p-phenylenebenzobisbenzoxazole, and poly-p-phenylenebenzobisbonzimidazole are dissolved in polyphosphoric acid, methanesulfonic acid, sulfuric acid, or a mixture of them in such a manner that no liq. crystalline phase is observed, thereby giving a wholly arom. heterocyclic polymer compsn. The compsn. is spun and posttreated thermally to give a fiber having high mechanical strengths, a high Young's modulus, etc.
