Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide band low loss optical fiber which can cope with a wide wavelength range from a visible light region (400nm-750nm) to a near infrared light region (-1400nm) with low loss, and a production method thereof.SOLUTION: Provided is the wide band low loss optical fiber comprising a core formed of silica glass having 1 ppm or less of OH group concentration, and a cladding formed of silica glass having fluorine concentration of 3.2 mass% or more and 7.2 mass% or less, and formed by spinning an optical fiber base material having 0.8-1.8% of relative index difference between the core and cladding. The wide band low loss optical fiber has 40 dB/km or less of transmission loss in a whole wavelength range of a wavelength of 400-1400 nm.
