PURPOSE: To provide a winding method which is prevented from the drop of an end face by a method wherein when a thread is introduced between a free roller and a winding core and winding is applied in tapered manner on the winding core, the axis of the thread roll is caused to cross the axis of the free roller and is moved backward on the small side of the thread roll based on a thread introduction direction.

CONSTITUTION: The axis of a thread roll 1 is moved backward on the small side of the thread roll 1 based on a thread introduction direction and caused to cross the axis of a free roller in the introduction direction of a thread so that angle is θin a state that an axis line A-A' of a winding core 2 and an axis line B-B' cf a free roller 3 are projected on a plane containing a thread 4 during contact of the winding core 2 with the free roller 3. When, with this state, the free roller 3 is rotated, the thread roll 1 is brought into the same state as that in which the thread roll is revolved in a spiral state as it is rotated around the free roller 3. Namely, the thread roll 1 is about to move toward the small diameter side, and the thread is wound in the direction of the large diameter side as seen from the thread 4 to be wound. This method enables winding of the thread roll 1 without the occurrence of the drop of the end face of a package on the small diameter side.
