Machining stations ST constituting a machining line of a workpiece W are arranged on both sides of a conveying line L of a conveying device 1, and the machining stations ST1, ST2, ST3, etc. are arranged in a predetermined mode according to the sequence of the machining processes of the workpiece W. The conveying device 1 comprises two arm parts 2, 3 orthogonal to each other. The arm parts 2, 3 are movable forward and backward with respect to an arm head 4, and the arm head 4 is turnable at the intervals of 90. The conveying device 1 runs the conveying line L along one side face of each machining station ST to convey the workpiece W and stops in a workpiece transfer position of each machining station ST to transfer the workpiece W.
