The looseness removing device 8 includes a looseness removing roller 30 and a yarn detecting sensor for detecting yarn of a surface of the looseness removing roller 30. The machine base control part 96 determines whether or not to allow the piecing device 92 to perform piecing based on a detecting result of the yarn detecting sensor 34 when the yarn is cut by the cutter 10 when a yarn defect is detected by the yarn clearer 11.
