PURPOSE: To obtain the subject fluorescent material doped with trivalent Eu and emitting red light when excited with ultraviolet ray or cathode ray by decreasing the mixing ratio of Y raw material to an extent corresponding to the mixing ratio of a group IA element.

CONSTITUTION: The objective fluorescent material contains (a) Y and V, (b) trivalent Eu substituting a part of Y, (c) 0.1-0.9 mol of P and/or B based on 1 mol of Y and (d) ≤0.1 mol of a group IA element based on 1 mol of Y. The material can be produced by adjusting the total mixing ratio of the raw material composed of Y. Eu and a group IA element to an (almost) stoichiometrical ratio.
