Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an access system for surgery, the system including an outer anchor, an internal anchor, and a retractor including a flexible tube sheath elongating between the anchors.SOLUTION: An example of outer anchor includes an outer ring that is rotatable centering around its annular axis and thereby winds a sheath around itself when extending an incision or opening of a body wall. The sheath includes fibers or strands for improving its abrasion resistance and puncture resistance. An access system for surgery according to this invention is useful for a procedure likely to damage the sheath, such as orthopedic artificial hip joint replacement and spine. In some examples, the sheath is tapered from the outer ring to an inner ring.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
