To provide a brake device which can easily switch a state that a rotating body can rotate, and a state that the rotating body cannot rotate by a small operation force, and can adjust a brake force imparted to the rotating body in a stepwise manner.SOLUTION: A brake device 2 comprises: a housing 4; an input shaft 6 rotatably supported to the housing 4, and connected to the rotating body; a cylindrical inner ring 8 rotatably fit to the input shaft 6; brake means 10 attached to the housing 4 movably in an axial direction of the input shaft 6, and imparting a brake force to the inner ring 8; and speed increase means 12 for increasing rotation inputted to the input shaft 6, and transmitting it to the inner ring 8. The brake means 10 is positioned in a first axial position for making the rotating body non-rotatable by imparting a first brake force to the inner ring 8, a second axial position for allowing the rotation of the rotating body while imparting a second brake force which is smaller than the first brake force to the inner ring 8, and a third axial position not imparting the brake force to the inner ring 8.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
