Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize pumping loss (or an engine brake action) during coast travel while securing negative pressure to be supplied to a brake booster.SOLUTION: When starting fuel cut to temporarily stop fuel supply to a cylinder of an internal combustion engine, operation to gradually reduce the opening of a throttle valve is performed so that negative pressure in an intake passage on the downstream side of the throttle valve approximates a target value for negative pressure to be supplied to the brake booster. Then, operation to increase the opening of the throttle valve again is started before the negative pressure to be actually supplied to the brake booster reaches the target value.
