Abstract:
To promptly determine an octane value.SOLUTION: A control device of an engine 1 comprises fuel supply sections (an injector 6 and a fuel supply system 61) and an ignition section (ignition plug 25), a measurement section (cylinder inner pressure sensor SW5) and a control section (ECU 10). The control section causes the ignition section to ignite an air-fuel mixture at a predetermined timing and thereby allowing: a portion of the air-fuel mixture to start combustion associated with flame propagation; and then the remaining unburnt portion thereof to undergoes combustion through partial self-ignition combustion. The control section also receives a measurement signal, calculates a heat quantity generated in a combustion chamber during a period from when the ignition section ignites to when the unburnt air-fuel mixture undergoes self-ignition, and determines an octane value of fuel on the basis of the calculated heat quantity.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
