Abstract:
PURPOSE: To store a structure compactly by opposing a hinge plate having the same apex angle as the angle of the folding line of 'Miura folding' to a hinge plate having another apex angle, and thereby forming a center hinge and corner hinges. CONSTITUTION: 'Miura folding', which is one kind of the way of the art of folding paper, is utilized to constitute a hinge mechanism for expanding and storing a space antenna; i.e., center hinges and corner hinges are placed at predetermined centers of rectangular panels 1-9 each having a number of apex angles. The center hinge is formed when a hinge plate 12 having the same apex angle α as the angle formed by the folding line of the 'Miura folding' and a hinge plate 11 having another apex angle 180 deg.-α are opposed together. with hinge pieces 13a-16a secured to the two sides of each hinge plate which sandwich the apex angle. The corner hinges are formed by securing hinge pieces 19a-21 a to the two sides of each of plural hinge plates 17, 18 which sandwich a similar apex angle α.
