PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rational strength confirmation method targeting a shell of a square flange type intercooler.SOLUTION: A strength confirmation method of confirming strength of a shell 3 of an intercooler 1 comprises: a first evaluation process of evaluating strength of a gas intake/outlet part-related region 40 composed of a gas intake/outlet part 13 of the shell 3 and a part of a cylindrical trunk part 10 nearby a root part of the gas intake/outlet part 13; and a second evaluation process of evaluating strength of a region other than the gas intake/outlet part-related region, and the first evaluation process includes: a hydraulic pressure application process of applying predetermined hydraulic pressure from a gas flow passage G to the shell 3; a displacement measurement process of measuring displacement of a predetermined measurement spot 44 set in the gas intake/outlet part-related region 40; and a reference determination process of determining strength of the gas intake/outlet part-related region 40 through large/small comparison between the displacement of the measurement spot 44 and a predetermined reference value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
