Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a conventional method, for restricted cases in which an ultrasonic joining tool has a knurled surface, that detection of the width of a protrusion tip is difficult since a camera image is used.SOLUTION: Provided is a service life managing method in which: an advancing and retracting drive mechanism 5 of a horn 2 and a position detecting mechanism 6 of the horn 2 are used in joining a workpiece W by holding the workpiece W between an anvil 4 and the horn 2 and applying ultrasonic oscillation to the horn 2; and an oscillation start position P3 of the horn 2 is calculated on the basis of a difference between a total displacement amount ABS of the horn 2 from an original position P1 until arriving at a joining completion position P2, and a sinking amount TC of the horn 2 during joining, and further a tool service life of the anvil 4 is estimated on the basis of a change amount of the oscillation start position P3 of the horn 2, every time a workpiece W is joined. In the service life managing method, a tool service life is grasped without being influenced by a surface form of an ultrasonic joining tool and without using a camera, and then a proper tool replacement timing is determined.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
