Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition having at least one sufficient characteristic in characteristics such as a high maximum temperature of a nematic phase, a low minimum temperature of the nematic phase, a large positive dielectric anisotropy, and high stability against UV rays or having an appropriate balance with respect to at least two characteristics, and to provide a liquid crystal display element comprising the composition, particularly, an encapsulated liquid crystal display element, and a liquid crystal display element as a component of a 3D lens.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition comprises: a specific compound having a large optical anisotropy as a first component; a specific compound having a large optical anisotropy and a positive dielectric anisotropy as a second component; a specific compound having a large positive dielectric anisotropy as a third component; and a specific compound having a large optical anisotropy and a high maximum temperature or a low minimum temperature as a fourth component. The liquid crystal display element comprises the above composition.SELECTED DRAWING: None
