To provide an optical recording medium which enables recording and reproducing with a recording density exceeding the diffraction limit with a short wavelength light, particularly with blue laser beam and has a high transfer speed and a recording method using the medium.
The optical recording medium provided with a recording layer on a substrate is provided with a super resolution mask containing a copper corrole derivative having a pyrrole ring substituted with, for example, bromine, on the side of the medium where the recording and reproducing light of the recording layer of the recording medium is made incident. The optical recording medium is irradiated with a laser beam of an oscillation wavelength 400 to 550 nm, by which the recording and reproducing with a high recording density exceeding the diffraction limit are performed.
