PURPOSE: To provide a method an apparatus fro mechanically laying plural pieces of lumber or the like in alignment with single lines arranged at designated spaces on the same plane.

CONSTITUTION: A base 1 fixed close to a table lifter 2 comprises a bracket 5 including a fork 6 drawn onto the table lifter 2, which is movably provided on a guide rod 3, a weighing table including a stopper 14 brought into contact with the rear end area of a square timber 37 placed on the fork 6, which is provided on a guide rod 7 in such a manner as to move in parallel to the bracket 5, and driving means 21, 21a for moving backward the bracket 5 including the fork 6 faster than the weighing table including the stopper 14. Accordingly, a work for aligning plural pieces of lumber one by one at designated spaces and loading the same manually for effective drying for the lumber can be accomplished mechanically so as to improve work efficiency.
